Home River Bioblitz 2020

40+ locations, 5000+ observations, 500+ people

On September 20th, 2020, people went out to their local rivers around 5 continents to explore the biodiversity in and around them. This created a snapshot of the life that lives in the places that we love most.

Everyone that joined this day has their own story, but one value connects them all: rivers. Check out this video to meet some of the bioblitz leaders that inspired their local communities to join them on this day in celebration of their local river.

A Communal Citizen-Science Project

Connecting people globally

Locally, people stand up to protect and restore their local waterways all in their own way. The Home River Biobitz connects these personal stories and shows that communities, volunteers, and organizations – small and big – are ready for action to defend the biodiversity that surrounds their home rivers.

The online recap was a moment to foster these connections and to discuss the observations made around the world. A collection of observations and stories is gathered in an ESRI storymap. In 2021, we welcome Bioblitz leaders to create their own storymap to communicate their experience.
